Luis A. Ferrao Delgado, PhD
President of University of Puerto Rico. 

Dr. Luis A. Ferrao graduated with a bachelor’s degree in History from the Río Piedras Campus of the University of Puerto Rico in 1980 and obtained his master’s degree in Latin American Studies from the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences, FLACSO, Mexico. He completed his doctoral degree in Political Science at the Universidad Autónoma de México-UNAM in 1988 holding postdoctoral studies in Advanced Studies of Contemporary History and International Relations at the University of Paris I-Pantheon Sorbonne.

Dr. Ferrao has worked as a professor for the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus since 1988 and during his tenure, he has collaborated in several working committees for the Department of Social Sciences within the School of General Studies of the Río Piedras Campus. Furthermore, he has held various titles and positions including being the Director of the Project for European Studies, Dean of the Faculty of General Studies, and Chancellor of the Río Piedras Campus.  As of July 1, 2022, Dr. Luis A Ferrao has reached the pinnacle of his career by holding the title of President of the University of Puerto Rico.

Throughout his career, Dr. Ferrao has made numerous publications and contributions in books, articles, and other journals. His line of research has been focused on Puerto Rican politics and the Spanish Civil War receiving invitations to speak in various national and international forums.

In addition to his contributions at the University of Puerto Rico, Dr. Ferrao proudly served as Special Assistant to the Director of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture from 1985 to 1987. His favorite hobbies are reading, soccer and the game of chess, where he fondly remembers holding the title of Puerto Rican state champion.
