Welcome to Libraria,

the Digital Repository on the History of Health in Puerto Rico!

Libraria is the Repository of Digital Information on the History of Health Sciences in Puerto Rico. Its purpose is to facilitate access to full-text publications that are part of the Special Collections in the Conrado F. Asenjo Library to support health history education and research in the six schools of the Medical Sciences Campus and beyond.

The Libraria repository includes health-related journals, reports, censuses, rare books, interviews, and images (videos, photos) published in Puerto Rico before 1950. All resources are in print or physical format for consultation in the Puerto Rican Collection and Historical Archive of the Special Collections section of the Conrado F. Asenjo Library.

Libraria users can easily search for information in its database using keywords in English or Spanish. They also can limit their searches by authors, title, publication date, and file format (text, image, audio, video). Documents and objects in the Libraria repository are classified using the controlled vocabulary of the National Library of Medicine’s Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and the Descriptores de las Ciencias de la Salud (DeCS) developed by BIREME-PAHO.

Important Notice

The staff of the UPR-MSC Office of Information Systems is migrating Libraria’s database to a new MS Windows platform. This work will make Libraria more robust for the expansion of its contents, enhancing the accessibility, security, and integrity of its valuable contents. Until the migration is complete, the repository contents will only be available in their physical format in the Special Collections section of the Conrado F. Asenjo Library. To plan your visit to the Special Collections section, please contact: Dr. Efraín Flores-Rivera (email: efrain.flores@upr.edu, phone: 787 758-2525 ext. 2078) of Mr. José R. Thank you!
