The University of Puerto Rico, being the leader in areas of research and scientific production in Puerto Rico, seeks the highest standards of compliance and integrity in the management of external funds. With this objective in mind, the Office for Research Compliance and Integrity attached to the Vice Presidency for Research and Innovation, is created in 2013 [Certification 59 (2012-2013) amending Certification 81 (2007-2008)]. The mission of the Office for Research Compliance and Integrity is to assist the research and creative community in achieving and maintaining ethical principles of high rigor, as well as ensuring full compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations through the promulgation of a culture of excellence and responsibility in research.
The Office for Research Compliance and Integrity is established through a four-way approach, supported by effective collaboration and communication to achieve the following objectives:
1. Establish, advise and coordinate the implementation of institutional policies and procedures for compliance and integrity, including those related to disciplinary actions.
2. Provide education and extensive training to the university community.
3. Conduct continuous compliance assessments, through monitoring, reporting and audits.
4. Require and monitor corrective action plans when necessary.
