Una b\u00fasqueda en GS identificar\u00e1 art\u00edculos, tesis, libros y patentes, entre otros de diferentes repositorios. Adem\u00e1s de identificar los documentos bibliogr\u00e1ficos relevantes, GS asocia autom\u00e1ticamente los documentos con sus autores para prop\u00f3sitos bibliom\u00e9tricos.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"dt-single-image\" href=\"https:\/\/www.upr.edu\/ac\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2022\/05\/blog-image-2.png\" data-dt-img-description=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-36312\" src=\"https:\/\/www.upr.edu\/ac\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2022\/05\/blog-image-2-300x129.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.upr.edu\/ac\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2022\/05\/blog-image-2-300x129.png 300w, https:\/\/www.upr.edu\/ac\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2022\/05\/blog-image-2-1024x441.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.upr.edu\/ac\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2022\/05\/blog-image-2-768x331.png 768w, https:\/\/www.upr.edu\/ac\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2022\/05\/blog-image-2-1536x662.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.upr.edu\/ac\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2022\/05\/blog-image-2.png 1683w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px\" \/><\/a>Para identificar a los 100 investigadores de Puerto Rico con el mayor n\u00famero de citas, se utilizaron los resultados obtenidos de GS el 25 de abril de 2022. Este ejercicio demostr\u00f3 que 88% de los investigadores m\u00e1s citados son de la Universidad de Puerto Rico y el 22% corresponde a instituciones privadas, incluyendo: Ponce Health Sciences University-PHS (7%), Universidad Albizu (2%), Universidad Interamericana-Inter (1%), Sistema Universitario Ana G. M\u00e9ndez-SUAGM (1%) y Universidad Central del Caribe-UCC (1%).<\/p>\n<p>Dentro de los investigadores de la UPR el 47% son de UPR R\u00edo Piedras, 35% de UPR Mayag\u00fcez, 16% del Recinto de Ciencias M\u00e9dicas y 2% de UPR Humacao. Las ramas pr\u00e1cticas de la ciencia tienden a dominar la lista y se identifican tambi\u00e9n investigadores de Administraci\u00f3n de Empresas, Ciencias Sociales, Ingenier\u00eda y Matem\u00e1ticas. (Ver Tabla 1)<\/p>\n<p>Cada autor puede crear gratuitamente su perfil de GS y el sistema autom\u00e1ticamente crea un resumen de sus publicaciones, el n\u00famero de citas (por art\u00edculo y totales) y otras m\u00e9tricas est\u00e1ndar del \u00abimpacto\u00bb del investigador como lo es el <em>h-index<\/em>. Como parte de su perfil, el autor establece la instituci\u00f3n a la que est\u00e1 afiliado y su \u00e1rea de peritaje.<\/p>\n<p>El n\u00famero total de citas mide cu\u00e1ntas veces los trabajos de un autor han sido citados. Un n\u00famero alto de citas est\u00e1 altamente correlacionado con el impacto que tiene el investigador. En adici\u00f3n, se incluye el <em>h-index<\/em> de los autores como una m\u00e9trica de la cantidad de publicaciones de calidad. Un <em>h-index<\/em> de 1 implica que el autor tiene un art\u00edculo que fue citado una vez. Un <em>h-index<\/em> de 10 implica que el autor tiene 10 publicaciones, cada una con por lo menos 10 citas. GS es muy certero midiendo estas dos m\u00e9tricas de productividad.<\/p>\n<p>Aunque GS recopila la informaci\u00f3n de los investigadores autom\u00e1ticamente, no provee un mecanismo para extraer la informaci\u00f3n por pa\u00eds. La informaci\u00f3n de los investigadores m\u00e1s citados se recopil\u00f3 utilizando un \u00ab<em>web crawler<\/em>\u00bb para la mayor\u00eda de la informaci\u00f3n y luego se a\u00f1adieron los investigadores de las dem\u00e1s instituciones de Puerto Rico. En adici\u00f3n, se verific\u00f3 manualmente la <a href=\"http:\/\/161.111.47.11\/en\/node\/94\">lista de los 100 investigadores con h-index m\u00e1s altos de Puerto Rico para el 2016<\/a> para asegurar que no hubiera omisiones. Finalmente, cada perfil de GS fue visitado manualmente para obtener el <em>h-index<\/em> de los investigadores y validar la afiliaci\u00f3n (auto-reportada) de los investigadores contra alguna p\u00e1gina oficial de su instituci\u00f3n. Detalles adicionales sobre la metodolog\u00eda empleada pueden encontrarse en <a href=\"https:\/\/hjcarlo.wordpress.com\/2022\/04\/27\/los-100-mas-citados-de-pr\/\">este enlace<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>La Tabla 1, reportada en ingl\u00e9s, presenta a los 100 investigadores afiliados a alguna universidad en Puerto Rico que, seg\u00fan GS, tienen el mayor n\u00famero total de citas. La primera columna de la tabla es el \u00ab<em>ranking<\/em>\u00bb del investigador de acuerdo con el total de citas. El perfil de GS de cada autor est\u00e1 asociado a su nombre, seg\u00fan aparece en el perfil de GS y con algunos arreglos menores para que se vean uniformes. La instituci\u00f3n y el campus fueron obtenidos manualmente de la web. Las especialidades fueron auto-reportadas en los perfiles y s\u00f3lo se presenta la primera especialidad reportada en el perfil. La intenci\u00f3n de esta columna es proveer insumo del \u00e1rea de peritaje principal. Las \u00faltimas dos columnas son el n\u00famero total de citas (entre todas las publicaciones) y el <em>h-index<\/em> obtenidos el 25 de abril de 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Tabla 1. Aunque tener un perfil de GS es una pr\u00e1ctica com\u00fan de los investigadores, dado que provee informaci\u00f3n muy \u00fatil sobre el impacto de las publicaciones, a\u00fan hay algunos que no lo tienen o no lo han hecho p\u00fablico. Se invita a estos investigadores a abrir su perfil de GS para que sean incluidos en listas futuras.<\/li>\n<li>GS considera cualquier documento, aunque no sea revisado por pares, e incluye auto-citaciones. Por otro lado, un documento no tiene que ser revisado por pares para tener un impacto y las auto-citaciones no juegan un papel determinante para este grupo de investigadores altamente citados.<\/li>\n<li>Algunos documentos pueden estar duplicados, aunque GS hace un buen trabajo reconoci\u00e9ndolo autom\u00e1ticamente.<\/li>\n<li>El n\u00famero de citas y el <em>h-index<\/em> son m\u00e9tricas que aumentan con el tiempo. Por tanto, la lista de investigadores estar\u00e1 sesgada hacia los investigadores con m\u00e1s a\u00f1os en la academia.<\/li>\n<li>Investigadores que son autores de libros de texto y art\u00edculos de revisi\u00f3n de literatura tienden a ser favorecidos por el n\u00famero de citaciones. Por tal motivo, tambi\u00e9n se report\u00f3 el <em>h-index<\/em>. Desafortunadamente, no se pudo identificar una forma pr\u00e1ctica de obtener y hacer un <em>ranking<\/em> por <em>h-index<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Los investigadores en \u00e1reas pr\u00e1cticas como la medicina tienden a publicar m\u00e1s a menudo, con m\u00e1s co-autores y el tiempo de publicaci\u00f3n es mucho m\u00e1s corto que para otras ramas. Estos autores tienden a ser favorecidos en la lista.<\/li>\n<li>Algunos profesores retirados que mantuvieron su afiliaci\u00f3n est\u00e1n incluidos en la lista dado que sus publicaciones son parte de su legado.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Aunque GS no es perfecto, s\u00ed es muy bueno midiendo estas m\u00e9tricas. Tablas como esta deben ser creadas peri\u00f3dicamente para reconocer el esfuerzo de nuestros investigadores en Puerto Rico. Es importante resaltar que, aunque un n\u00famero alto de citaciones implica productividad e impacto acad\u00e9mico, hay otras formas de tener impacto. Por ejemplo, muchos investigadores son muy productivos atrayendo fondos externos, haciendo labor creativa, emprendiendo, mentoreando estudiantes e impactando directamente las comunidades.
