Referencia

La colección de Referencia cuenta con las principales fuentes de consulta de la Biblioteca. El usuario tiene la oportunidad de utilizar el catálogo en línea (HORIZON), enciclopedias, diccionarios, anuarios, publicaciones de gobierno, fuentes geográficas, y atlas.

Bases de Datos

El Área de Bases de Datos incluye índices generales y especializados. El usuario puede acceder tanto desde la Biblioteca como desde su casa productos electrónicos que contienen miles de artículos de revistas, periódicos, videos y libros electrónicos de los proveedores ProQuest, EBSCOhost, Gale Cengage, E-Libro, SCIENCE DIRECT, Films on Demand, Infobase, Microjuris, ACS CREDO, NNN Consult y LatAm Studies.

Referencia Virtual

Las consultas se reciben por email o por chat.

Reserva

La Colección está localizada en el primer nivel. Contiene los recursos bibliográficos que los profesores y bibliotecarios han separado para uso de los estudiantes como complemento de las disciplinas que ellos imparten en las clases. Estos recursos se prestan para uso exclusivo dentro de la Biblioteca.

Revistas
La colección de Revistas tiene más de 6,000 títulos de revistas, periódicos e índices. Enriquecen la Colección, índices especializados que facilitan la localización de información en revistas y periódicos de Puerto Rico. A través del Hispanic American Index (HAPI) y el índice de revistas en español, se accede a la información de Puerto Rico y países de habla hispana. También puede localizar el índice de revistas de Puerto Rico en CONUCO.

Colección de Arecibo

La Colección de la Región de Arecibo está localizada en el primer nivel. Selecciona, organiza y preserva el acervo bibliográfico, histórico y cultural de la ciudad y de otros pueblos que comprenden la Región de Arecibo.

Francisco Matos Paoli – La Biblioteca recibió la donación de la colección de libros del destacado y conocido escritor lareño. La colección está en proceso de evaluación, recibo y catalogación. Ésta incluye tanto obras de Matos Paoli, como obras de otros escritores autografiadas y dedicadas a él, como obras de interés general y particular del escritor. La colección se ubicará en la Colección de la Región de Arecibo de la Biblioteca.

Librada Ramos – Otra colección privada donada a la Biblioteca fue la de la escritora, maestra, líder cívica y activista política arecibeña, Librada Rodríguez Vda. de Ramos. Incluye libros de su autoría, así como de interés general, histórico, religioso entre otros, revistas, documentos, certificaciones y fotos que le pertenecieron.
Archivo Histórico de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Arecibo – Recopila los documentos sobresalientes de esta Institución y que constituirán la historia de la Universidad.

Circulación

Colección con el mayor número de recursos bibliográficos. Es el lugar donde se procesan los préstamos de los mismos. El proceso de préstamo de los recursos se realiza a través del sistema automatizado Horizon. Recientemente se adquirieron laptops para préstamo a estudiantes.

Área de Multimedios

Colección de Música y Videoteca

Cuenta con una colección de discos, discos compactos, películas y documentales.  El área cuenta con cubículos equipados para el uso individual para escuchar música y videos.

Sala de Proyecciones, Conferencias y Videoconferencias

La Biblioteca cuenta con 3 salas, con pantallas inteligentes, computadoras, sonido y equipo de proyección.

Colección Juvenil

La Colección Juvenil, Ester Feliciano Mendoza, está localizada en el primer nivel. Se estableció en el 1984 con el objetivo de servir a toda la comunidad universitaria, con énfasis especial en los estudiantes del Programa de Educación Elemental para el curso de práctica docente y otros. Consiste de recursos bibliográficos en diferentes formatos como por ejemplo: libros de ideas para artificios y otros. Además,  cuenta con recursos audiovisuales para niños y jóvenes.

Sala de Cine

Se establece en colaboración con Caribbean Cinemas. Cuenta con butacas cómodas, equipo de proyección y pantalla de cine.

SERVICES The Library provides services for 78 hours a week and these include: • Information Literacy Program • Borrowing books • Database stations, journals, magazines, newspapers, books and microform materials • Interlibrary loans among the University of Puerto Rico Library branches • Projection Room • Virtual Reference and Face to Face • Conference Room • Exhibition Hall • Videoconference and Multipurpose Room • Assistive Technology Room (Disability Services) • Study Rooms and Study Carrels and touch screen monitors and cameras • Print and photocopy services

ORGANIZATION The Library responds to the Dean for Academic Affairs. It is divided into five main areas: Public Services, Learning Commons Center, Multimedia, Collection Development and Administrative Offices.

Public Services

  • Circulation (Borrowing books) – General Collection of books for use in room or taking out.
  • Reserve Collection – Collection of books that faculty and librarians have separated for the courses.
  • Youth Collection – consists of books and audiovisual resources for children and youth. It support the Elementary Education Program.
  • Special Collections – consists of the collection of Arecibo Region, University Historical Archive, Francisco Matos Paoli Collection, among others. It organizes and preserves the bibliographic, historical and cultural heritage of the city and other towns in the region. •
  • Reference Collection and Databases – consists of the main sources of consultation of the Library as encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, among others. The databases include: ProQuest, EBSCOhost, GALE, Science Direct, Films on Demand, Microjuris, ACS, among others. Also Open Access Databases likes Dialnet, Redalyc, Scielo, Clacso, Open TextBook are included.
  • Magazines and Newspapers Collection – Contains magazines and newspapers printed and microfilmed. It has major magazines published in Puerto Rico and local newspapers.
  • Virtual Reference – Virtual service where the information needs of the university community are answered through the use of technological tools such as: email, chat or other digital platforms · Learning Commons Center Extended Library service that encourages the use of open space for collaboration, teaching and learning with technology. Also, Workshops on information skills, mentoring and tutoring, and digital applications for education are also offered. It also has three group study rooms, one conference room for academic and educational activities with screen monitors and cameras, two collaborative work stations and 20 computers stations. Multimedia Area It is located on the second floor of the Library and includes Conference Rooms, Exhibition Hall, Projection Room, Video Conference Room and Information Literacy Program, Video and Music Collection.
  • Conference Room – The room is equipped with chairs, screen monitors and cameras wireless network, and phone jacks. The area can accommodate 75 people. The room is available by reservation.
  • Exhibition Hall – In these room art exhibitions and other cultural and educational expressions of interest to the university community are presented.
  • Projection Room – This room seats 25 people and includes screen monitors and cameras computer, and DVD, Blu-ray and VHS player.
  • Information Literacy Program -The program aims to empower users with the information skills necessary for academic research development. Information skills are essential for general education and major academic programs accrediting agencies. The program staff develops educational and advocacy services Library materials. 62
  • Music Collection – Is housed on the 2 floor of the Library. The music collection consist chiefly of classical music, but includes jazz, folk and ethnic discs and others.
  • Video Library – This collection includes a variety of films, documentaries and other recordings in VHS, DVD and Blu-ray formats. The need for individual or group use equipment provided.
  • Assistive Technology Room (AT) – Assistive Technology Room, located on the first floor of Library. Room houses technologies to facilitate academic success and provide alternate format access to library materials for users with a variety of vision, hearing, learning, and/or mobility related disabilities. This technology rooms contain special software programs like Jaws, Computer with “Zoom Text”, the “Open Book”, Webcam, Magic Professional with speech Spanish, Fusion Professional and Scanning & Reading Software and TV. hand-held magnifier and other programs.
  • Videoconferences and Multiuse Room – It is equipped with 25 computers with touch screen monitors and cameras for information literacy workshops, virtual courses or require the integration of emerging technologies and for the offering of academic activities such as: webinars, conferences, virtual meetings and others.

Collections Development Area This area is located on the first floor of the Library. It’s responsible of the acquisition, cataloging and classification of the library information resource. Administrative office The Library Director office is located on the first floor of the building. The director oversees and directs the Library’s operations including public service, collections, technology, administration and facilities management.

Library Friends Association The Library Friends Association has UPRA aims to serve as liaison between the Library and the external community. It also encourages the use of the Library and its information resources promoting social, cultural and intellectual development.
